Review: ItsJudyTime Palette

Who else was excited when Judy, of itsjudytime, announced that she was launching her own palette with BH Cosmetics?! BECAUSE I WAS SUPER EXCITED!!!!!! I had to wait a couple of weeks to get it because I needed some money (I'm a broke college student) so I got this palette after Christmas for a little gift for myself. When the palette finally came, I had never ran that fast to get a package before in my life. It actually came in a big box so it took me forever when I opened it but when I finally did, I swear I could hear the hallelujah chorus play around (cue the dramatics!). Yeah, so you can tell I was super excited.

I've had this palette now for several weeks now and I feel like I've used and abused the palette enough to know how I feel about it in general. So if you want to know my thoughts about the It'sJudyTime palette than continue to read on!

Above is a picture of what the palette looks inside. Sorry for the crappy quality! I don't own a fancy camera, rather my dad does so I took a bunch of pics with his nice camera for good quality while I was home on break. But,  I forgot to take a picture of the inside of the palette so I was forced to use an okay quality camera and the best lighting I could find here at school. The pic's not that bad right? … Anyways! As long as the colors look accurate, it's all good.

So let's talk about the packaging. First impressions wise, I was a little bit disappointed that the palette itself is so small. In videos and other pictures I've seen, it looked pretty decent size. In actuality, the palette it as long as my hand and as wide as a palm so it's pretty small. The packaging itself is black with gold detailing. It has a black plastic cardboard type of feel but it feels very sleek and not cheap. It has a magnetic closure, which I like better than just a snap one. Inside the palette, there is a nice size mirror which I love because often times when I use a palette like this I almost always just use the mirror inside, so this was very convenient. On the bottom of the mirror is a wonderful quote and I think a saying Judy likes to say, "Natural is beautiful, but makeup is glam". I like the little details that she put and it puts a smile on my face every time I open it. Overall, I like the packaging. It's travel friendly and great for storing away. I don't have problems with it at all.

This is what BH Cosmetics has to say when describing the palette: It's Judy Time eyeshadow palette is a gorgeous collection of 12 eyeshadows perfect for daytime or date night! Ranging from pretty neutrals to jewel tones of blue and purple this collection of colors, hand picked by famed Beauty Guru ItsJudyTime, features, satin, shimmer, and matte finish eyeshadows.

I liked that Judy choose to have her palette be neutral overall with pops of color because for an everyday girl like many of us, that's really all we need.

So now let's get indepth with these shadows and what I thought of them.

This is my first time ever trying a product from BH Cosmetics so I was excited to finally give the company a go.The above picture are the eyeshadow swatches of the top row, going from left to right, starting with the first shadow. Since they don't have names, I'll just name them with what I think the color looks like. Hopefully it'll be easier to understand. So again, we're going to talk about each individual shadow from left to right.

Pictured above are the swatches of the top row from the palette.

Cream: This was the first shadow I swatched and as you can see, Jalisa was having difficulty getting even swatching (we use her arm for everything!) and this shadow was a lot harder to show up than the other ones. This is a light matte nude cream color and can be used as a highlight. It's actually not that pigmented and if blended hard enough, the color disappears. I've been using it as a highlight for the past couple of weeks and I find that I really don't care for this color. I don't hate it but I kind of wanted more for a highlight.

Tan Brown: This is the next shadow on the top row and it is a matte tan brown color. I actually really like this color because I consider it to be a blending color for my crease. I love when palettes include matte shadows and blending shadows instead of just shimmers because I can complete an eye look with just one product and I love that. I love using this as a blending color. It blends so nicely and adds that depth in the crease that is gorgeous.

Light Mud Brown: This shadow is a satin finish shadow so it has a bit of shimmer but not too much. I would call this a light mud brown because it reminds of the color of dirt during the spring time, when it hasn't been rained or snowed on. HAHA I'm trying here but really that is what it looks like to me! This shadow is actually one of my least used shadows in the palette. I like I do, it applies nicely on the lid but I feel like its just my skin tone with a bit of shimmer. I feel like the product doesn't pop on my lids. I like the pigmentation and the wear but its just a bland color.

Brick Brown: I absolutely love this next eyeshadow. I would say it is a matte brick brown with a hint of red color. It's super pigmented when applied with a brush and I love to use this as a crease or blending color. It is definitely on my favorites of the palette. It just works so nicely on the crease and adds that oomph that I love when I want a smoky brown look on my eyes.

Dark Brown: This shadow is a matte finish dark brown. This is one of more pigmented eyeshadows in the palette. I've used this as an outer corner color to deepen any look that I'm putting on. I use this all the time if I'm going for a smoky brown look and I love it. It's creamy and easy to blend with and I don't have any trouble with it. Easily one my favorites.

Satin Dark Brown: This is the last eyeshadow on the top row on the left and as I described it in its name it is a satin dark brown, like the shimmer version of the dark brown shadow. Again, I don't really care for this color. I've used maybe about 4 times, once as an all over lid color and another as an outer lid corner color. I like it and its pretty but its not my favorite.

Next up is the bottom row of the palette, which ranges from neutrals to pops of color shadows. This is my favorite part of the palette because I love my satins and shimmers!

Golden Shimmer: So starting form left to right, the first shadow on the bottom row is this beautiful golden shimmer. This is by far one of my favorites and one of my most frequently used shadow in this palette. It's one of more pigmented shadows and it is just so creamy. I love the way it sparkles on my lid. Its subtle yet glamorous and so easy to work with. If I'm running late in the mornings (which I always am!) I like to just put this all over my lid, blend it out a bit, and I'm ready to go for my day. I've gotten compliments on my look when I use this shadow and I truly love it.

Shimmery Cooper: Next up is the copper eyeshadow. Ugh, so pretty! It's pigmented and just as creamy as the gold shadow. I really have nothing bad to say. It blends well, it looks beautiful on the eyes, and so natural to wear. Cooper is what I believe a flattering color for all skin types. This is also a very "girl on the go" type of shadow because no matter what you do with it, it just looks good.

Burgundy Black: Now this particular eyeshadow was a surprise, but I think it was a good surprise. I've seen other reviews and what others have said about this shadow and how it wasn't what they expected. Yeah, it sure wasn't! I was expecting a pinky burgundy plum color (haha does that make sense?) and instead I got this brown burgundy black shadow with magenta sparkles. At first I hated this color because I had no idea what to do with it. I'm not a black eyeshadow type of girl and I've never really achieved a black smokey eye look in my life (it always come out so mudded!). But for the sake of this review I decided to work with it and interpret it into my looks my way. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I ended up like this color. I remember in one of itsjudylifes vlogs, she would put it on her lower lashline and it looked great. So I did that and I loved it. It gives a nice smokey effect. So when I did that I decided to use it on my lids to deepen up my looks from time to time. AND I LOVE IT! It's easy to work with and blend out. It adds oomph to my eye makeup and makes me feel more confident in using darker colors.

Shimmery Lilac Purple: Now we delve into some bright colors in this palette and first up is this gorgeous lilac color. It's not as light as a typical lilac but its not as dark as a purple, its more in between but it is gorgeous! It looks exactly as it does on the pan and it is nicely pigmented. I don't use colors like this often but I would use these. Surprisingly, this color is very wearable for an everyday look. Heck, this entire palette is perfectly wearable for everyday. I like this shadow as an all over lid color and paired up with one of the matte shades from this palette and it is such a dream. The look is simple and the shadow just adds some pizzaz to your day.

Periwinkle Satin: This shadow is a very pretty periwinkle color and is a satin finish. Honestly, I haven't used this as much as the other colors. It is pretty! Don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't necessarily gravitate towards it for everyday. Instead, I like to put it on my lower lash line to add a pop of color because against the browns of this palette, it really stands out. Again, the quality is excellent. It's soft and pigmented but just not one of favorites to use.

Navy Blue: And lastly is this gorgeous navy blue eyeshadow. In the pan it looks vibrant and very blue but when I apply on my eyelids, it comes off very different. It's not as pigmented, so you have to build the color up. But even then to me it's a very dull blue. When I blend the eyeshadow in, the color comes up as a blue black with a satin finish. To me, it doesn't have enough shimmer on my eyelids. I prefer to use it as a lash line color.

Pros:
  • A great variety of matte, satin, and shimmer shadows
  • A lot of neutral colors, great for everyday wear
  • Some shadows are easy to work with, easy to blend
  • The palette is great for everyone
  • Packaging is travel friendly and has a good weight to it
  • Storage friendly as well
  • A good size mirror
  • The price is excellent! (Check out the price below)
Cons:
  • Some shadows are highly pigmented, some are not
  • Some eyeshadows are deceiving, from pan to color
  • Some shadows were difficult to swatch, so I wouldn't use your finger, a brush is a better applicator
  • Some shadows are harder to work with or blend
  • Only available online

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I really like this eyeshadow. Of course, I'm putting away my bias of itsjudytime, because I absolutely love her, but if you were to ask me if I would recommend this product to you than yes, that is if you are a makeup lover like me. If you aren't and are just a person that needs a good neutral eyeshadow palette, I can recommend a bunch more at the drugstore or a higher end product that is more easily accessible. This palette is a great product, it has its neutrals and pops of colors, but does one absolutely need it? No. It's a great palette to try out if you're willing to order online but if you're not there are a bunch of dupes just like the eyeshadow colors at stores nearby.

Don't get me wrong, I love the palette, I love the quality for the price, and I love that it is personally made by a person that I look up to. It's more of a luxury item or a collector's item.  I would use these shadows from time to time but I'm not obsessed with it. It's not an amazing palette but it's a great palette for what it claims to be.

Thank you so much Judy for making this palette because it not only gives me a reason to enjoy new makeup products but it's also a product that is a piece of you just for your viewers. I love and appreciate that.
