First Impressions: Disney's Ariel Treasure Within Beaty Book by E.L.F.

How super excited was I when I discovered this gem at the drugstore?! This, our wonderful readers, is the Disney's Ariel Palette Treasure Within Beauty Book by E.L.F. My sister and I actually found this at Walgreens during a random run to the drugstore. We both saw it and went OOOOOOO! I was hesitant to buy it at first because I wasn't too sure of the quality but my sister liked it so much that I decided to buy it. I mean why not, it was only $10! There were other beauty products that went with this collection like lashes, I believe a brush set and makeup bag, and some hair accessories. I wasn't too interested in those and I just got the palette.

First off I'd like to say is that the design of this palette is absolutely gorgeous. The novelty of this item gives me such a nostalgic feel and giiiirrrlll Ariel's hair looks fantastic! The packaging is made out of tough cardboard and the strap closures to keep the front closed.

Now when you open it up, this is what the inside of the palette looks like. It comes with a little mirror on the side with a cute saying "You've got your own style...". This palette comes with six eyeshadows, two bronzers, and a lipgloss. The beauty book also comes with two beauty tools, an eyeshadow brush and a bronzer brush. I love the little detail of the bookmark with the A for Ariel wax stamp. On the back of it is a small version of the right side of the palette. Although it's cute it is quite annoying because every time I close the book it's in the way and I end up creasing the bookmark.

If you open the left side of the beauty book where the little mirror is, you'll find two step by step instructions of two different makeup looks. On the corner it has the saying "...Now let it come through." which finishes the quote from the front cover. I love it when any palette has these because if I'm feeling lazy and don't want to conjure up an eye look by myself, I can just refer to the tutorials.

Now that my little overview is done, let's actually check out the eyeshadows, bronzers, and lipgloss!

Let's talk about the eyes first. There are 9 bright and beachy inspired eyeshadows. I'm just going to talk about each shadow and give a description of them as well as my opinion on them. I'll begin from left to right and on the top. Oh, and aren't the eyeshadow names cute?! SO CUTE!

Sand Dollar- is your classic white with a satin finish

Coral Reef- is a light yellow satin finish

Tropical Wave- is a green blue shimmer (the swatch looks bluer but there is definitely green in it)

North Star- this is a gray shadow with blue flecks (super weird swatch I know, it's the lighting but it is a gray blue)

For Shore- is a gold shimmer

Siren Song- is a rust copper satin finish

Seaweed- is a seafoam satin green

Seashell- a beautiful matte bright purple

Brilliant Sea- a satin finish royal blue

And that is all 9 shadows. Although all the eyeshadows are absolutely gorgeous, there are some hits and misses. I like that the palette comes with some neutral colors and some colorful bright colors. And, it has three different types of finishes, satin, shimmer, and surprisingly a matte.

The top row shadows are not as pigmented as the rest. They took about two swipes before it could swatch pigmented. Sand Dollar was a bit powdery to work with. I liked the finish of both Coral Reef and Tropical Wave but because they aren't creamy or that much pigmented, it took a while to build up.

The middle row has North Star, For Shore, and Siren Song. I was most intrigued in these shadows because they looked like something I would wear everyday. North Star was definitely shocking to me because although it looks super gray in the pan, the blue sparkles in it really shines through in natural light. When you swatch it, North Star seriously looks like a blue. For Shore is your classic neutral gold. It's not as bright as in the pan but when swatched, the gold really peeks through. Of course I've used this shade with every eye look I've done with this palette because it is super versatile. It's creamy and not powdery and by far the easiest shadow to work with in the palette. The last shadow in the middle row is Siren Song. Love the name of this shadow. When swatched, it feels drier than For Shore and not as creamy. This shadow was a bit of a letdown because I was expecting super pigmentation but instead it's patchy. I definitely have to really dig my brush into it and layer this color more than once on my lids.

And finally the last row consists of the brighter pop of color shades. First is Seaweed and this is definitely your beachy seafoam color. It is soft and creamy. I put this as an inner corner highlight and I quite liked it. It's such a fun and summer type color. Next is Seashell which is the bright purple. This shade is actually matte which I was super surprised about because in palette's like these you don't normally see a matte shade. It is creamy and pigmented with one swatch. And lastly is the royal blue shade, Brilliant Sea. It is a satin finish and goes on smoothly.

Overall these shadows good but they aren't great. Some are surprisingly pigmented and creamy but some are powdery and hard to work with. The lasting power of these eyeshadows  aren't long lasting. I would definitely use a primer because it will help the shadows stick better. But even with a primer it will fade. I really didn't expect much quality wise in these shadows but they give you color which is what I mostly look for. They are very workable and great for a beginner to use. This set also comes with an eyeshadow brush which is very reminiscent to the Eyeshadow "C" brush from E.L.F., which I love. It's smaller but it does pick up the shadows well.

Next up is the bronzers and lipgloss. The set comes with two bronzers Conch Shell and Tan Lines

Here on the swatch Conch Shell is on the left and Tan Lines is on the right. The bronzers are both matte. Conch Shell is the darker bronzer while Tan Lines is the lighter one. I'm really surprised that these are matte bronzers because I was totally expecting shimmer ones. Both bronzers look actually really good. I thought Conch Shell would be too dark for me but actually it's the perfect bronzer shade for me. Tan Lines would be great for lighter skin tones.  I'm pretty impressed with these bronzers. I didn't use the applicator that came with it because...let's be honest. It ain't gunna work!

And lastly is the lip color which is awesomely named Go On And Kiss The Girl.

Go On And Kiss The Girl is a classic baby pink. It is actually pretty sheer when applied but it does give off the light pink color. It applies on smoothly and smells chemically vanilla. It has a bit of thickness to it and is not sticky at all. The lip color is very natural and if you want something opaque and pigmented, this isn't it. I'd prefer to just layer it over a lipstick. This is definitely not a long lasting lipgloss, it will fade after about an hour! I personally don't mind this because I wouldn't be using this color by itself on my lips. I can just throw this tiny gloss in my bag and reapply when I need to.

Overall Thoughts:

My overall first impression of this special edition palette is okay. I haven't used it long enough to know whether or not I love it or hate it but so far everything in the palette is a hit or a miss. Once again some shadows are good and some are just not. Although they have pigment, the quality and the powderyness of some of the shadows really affect it. The matte bronzers were such a nice touch and I know I'll definitely be enjoying that and the lipgloss is just eh. I wouldn't suggest going out and buying this palette for quality rather I'd go and buy it for the novelty. If you enjoy the Disney princesses as much as I do then this is something fun to have in your collection. Is it a standout? Is it a necessity? So far, definitely not.

Well, that is it for my first impression of this palette! It's been a while since I've done a true first impressions post. I'm hoping that in using this palette more I'll grow to like it.
