BH Cosmetics Galaxy Chic Baked Eyeshadow Palette: Review & Swatches

Hello beautifuls, today I have the BHCosmetics Galaxy Chic Baked Eyeshadow Palette to review and talk about! If I haven't said this before then I'll say it now but I cannot leave the house without some eyeshadow or eyeliner on my eyes. So you'll probably see a lot of palette reviews on this blog :)

I got this palette as a Christmas gift from one of my closest friends. Besides, BHCosmetics was having an amazing sale at the time so she also profited from the site as well. I had been expressing my want for this palette ever since I saw JLovesMac1 use it in a video. I think it was in a tutorial that she was using this and I fell in love with how it looked like on camera.

So let's get on with the review and swatches! I'm too super excited to talk about this palette...

Claims: Look out of this world with our astronomical 18 baked eyeshadows. This Galaxy Chic Palette will take you from Plain Jane to an infinite trendsetter. Inspired by the moons and planets of the universe, eyeshadow shades range from hot sun-orange to cool-earth blue and colors of the Milky Way. Be as chic as a sparkling star!

Here is what the palette looks like inside. You have your 18 baked eyeshadows, SO BEAUTIFUL, against the purple packaging. The material feels like hard plastic and is pretty sturdy. It does not have a magnetic closing or any snaps to ensure the cover won't open, which is really the only thing I hate about the packaging. It also comes with a really nice size mirror. I use it whenever I use this palette!

I absolutely love the artwork of the palette on the cover. The theme is "Galaxy Chic" and has two women astronauts chillin' in the front and like a supernova type background. I love it. It's super cute and such a nice take on the theme.

Now let's talk about these amazing eyeshadows! Again, it comes with 18 beautifully baked eyeshadows ranging from oranges, maroons, pinks, yellows, blues, browns, and purples. I mean look how aesthetically gorgeous these shadows are! And the names are equally adorable, again reflecting the overall theme of the palette. I love theme palettes. It just makes it more fun to apply.

I'm going to go through each eyeshadow color like I usually do and we'll begin with the top row, from left to right. Oh! And please don't mind my hairy arms! I didn't think it would look so unkempt, lmao bad arm day?

The top row has more of the corals, maroons, and purples. Really really pretty!

Sun- is the leftmost shadow of the top row. This looks on the outside to be a yellow almost golden color with flecks of orange but when swatched all together it comes out to this bright orange copper type of shadow. It is absolutely gorgeous as an all over lid color and I love to use this on its own. It is definitely a very natural and everyday type of color.

Jupiter- This is the bright coral of the bunch and it is beautiful. It swatches exactly how it looks on the palette and at first I was confused by the name because I had always associated Jupiter with the color green (aka Sailor Jupiter from Sailor Moon) but the coral is just so pretty that I don't mind it. I will say it is not my most used eyeshadow from this row but I do like to add this to my lower lash line for a pop of color. This shadow reminds me of summer so much.

Prometheus- Yay a Greek mythology reference! I love Greek mythology but don't ask me about facts and stories and stuff because I haven't memorized any of that. Well anyways, Prometheus is this maroon dark copper color with white flecks in the pan. Swatched, it is very similar to the shadow next to it, Aphrodite, but it is a lighter maroon than it. I can say the white flecks contribute to do that but nonetheless it is really pretty. I say this is a copper maroon because it has a bit more of a brown tone in it.

Aphrodite- The next maroon type color of the palette but I prefer this one over Prometheus. Although they both swatch almost the same in the picture, this one has a more red undertone in my opinion. It's a solid brick brown maroon and I love this one. I love it especially were (that's what she said) because the pigmentation just shines through. Again, I like to just use this one eyeshadow all over the lid and just blend it out in the crease and it looks like I used five other shadows...but I didn't. I used this a lot during the Christmas time because it's a nice holiday color to wear and yeah I really like it.

Milky Way- Look how pretty this particular shadow looks in the pan! Swatched, this baked shadow is a beautiful iridescent purple lilac. It has grains of white embedded into the shadow so it almost has a silver feeling against the purple. It does look a bit pinker in the swatch above but that's just lighting. It's much more purple.

Cosmic- Now Cosmic is the lighter version of Milky Way in my opinion. It's the same lilac color but slightly more pastel like. I only use this as an inner corner highlight and that's what I really like it for. I use it with Milky Way and the two together is so pretty.

Next up is the second row!

Again, let's begin from left to right.

Saturn- This eyeshadow is definitely the lighter version of Sun. Sun has more of a copper undertone while Saturn has more gold in it. It's like a champagne color. This is one of the more basic colors of the palette in my opinion. This is much easier to wear on an everyday basis than like wearing the maroons or blues of this palette. I have used this more for an everyday look.

Venus- Next up is this beautiful coral orange eyeshadow. It takes a few patting motions on the eyelid to get it to be vibrant but other than that it looks fab. For me, I like a toned down version of this shadow best especially for summer. A nice sheer wash of this color on my lids is super pretty and is how I like to wear it.

Meteor- My sister describes this eyeshadow as "pixie dust" well more like the fairy godmother's magical dust in the movie Cinderella. I couldn't have described this any better because this is a baby blue white eyeshadow. It looks more white on my swatches but it does have blue in it. It's not as pigmented as the rest rather the highlight of it is the glitter and shimmer. So, if you want to build up this particular eyeshadow, it'll take a couple of swatches.

Comet- I would say this baked eyeshadow is a sea foam color. It's actually brighter than what it appears on the swatch. I think this is a super pretty summer color to put on the bottom lash line. I did this with a neutral eye and it just adds some fun and color to your entire look. After two good swatches, it is a pretty opaque color.

Earth- This baked shadow is seriously what I pictured Earth would be colored like. It's a beautiful cerulean color but it isn't as bright. It's more toned down and it has white shimmer in it. Again, because I'm not too adventurous in the blue department, I use this on my lower lash line. I have brown eyes and this really makes them pop. It is sooooooo pretty!

Neptune- Now Neptune seriously reminds me of like a royal blue prom dress. It has that satin finish that we see on any type of formal dress and the blue color is so rich. The blue comes out pretty opaque. I don't see shimmer because to this is a satin finish so there's no obvious glitters. I can see myself using this for a smokey blue eye. I think it would look really pretty for special occasions.

And now we're on to the last row of this palette! Yay! Again, I'm referring to the swatches above from left to right.

Mercury- this shadow is a pink and lilac infused baked wonderfulness. It reminds me of Milkyway and Cosmic but more on the lilac side rather than pink. This is great as a wash all over the eyelid or in the inner corner to make your eyes seem brighter and wider.

Mars- This baked shadow and the next are your more everyday type of colors. This to me is a true copper color. I don't know how else I can describe this color because you can find this in any neutral palettes out there. It's really standard and pretty.

Asteroid- This is also the brown color of the palette but I think it has some purple undertones in it. Both Mars and Asteroid are shimmer finishes. Their glitters are very refine. This to me is more of an outer corner shadow. I use this more to deepen any brown look.

Uranus- This is an icy blue eyeshadow. It looks white swatched because this ha more of a white base than a blue base just like Meteor. Except, the glitters are more refine in this baked shadow than with Meteor. It isn't as chunky. I prefer this icy blue as an inner corner highlight. I don't really have everyday uses for it.

Moon & Eclipse- So both Moon and Eclipse are very similar in color. They are both purple but Moon is more of a cool tone and Eclipse has the bit of gray in it. Their finishes are both the same, shimmer. The glitters are also similar. They are both really gorgeous purples.

Pros:
  • beautiful range of colors
  • gorgeous packaging
  • a theme palette!
  • all pigmented (some misses but overall very consistent)

Cons:
  • not practical packaging (no magnetic closure, no safety for the shadows inside)
  • not travel friendly
  • no matte shades
  • some colors are similar to each other
  • doesn't last all day (must have on a good eye primer!)
  • can only find this palette online

Overall Thoughts:

This is definitely one of the most "fun palette" I've ever owned. It just puts a smile on my face because of how adorable it looks. I do enjoy playing around with the colors in this palette, it has a really good range. I can use this for everyday and for formal occasions. The only thing is that I would appreciate at least one matte blending color for the crease but I don't think I've ever seen a matte baked shadow before, so that's understandable. Because this palette has some funky colors I do admit I don't reach out for this palette as often. I only do when I want something nice and shimmery on my lids. I think if you want to try out nice baked shadows all in one go, I would suggest this palette. The price of this isn't so bad either!
