Primer Review: L'oreal Revitalift Miracle Blur & L'oreal Youthcode Pore Vanisher

Hello lovely people who read our blog! Today, I have a review on two types of primers from L'oreal. The L'oreal Revitalift Miracle Blur and the L'oreal Youthcode Pore Vanisher. I have been wanting to try out these two primers ever since they came out but they are just so expensive for the drugstore! I think they both retail for about $25-$25 (I'll have exact numbers later in the blog) and I think that it just crazy for drugstore. I would expect to find a primer like this at a more high end place like Sephora or the Macy's makeup counter.

Of course, I'm not bashing on L'oreal for making a drugstore product expensive but when you think of expensive don't you think of luxury? Like because these primers are expensive for the drugstore I automatically think they are going to be fabulous and life changing.

Now because I am a broke college student with no job (anyone hiring?) I couldn't afford the two primers for a really long time. They've been out for months now and the only reason I was able to buy it was because L'oreal was gracious enough, for the budget beauty like me, to sell these primers in sample sizes.

I go to Target at least once a week, whether it's to scour the makeup aisle or to just look around and maybe get a Starbucks drink. Trust me, I love Target so much. So when I was perusing down aisles and idling about it, I stumbled upon the L'oreal sample sizes. It wasn't a magnificent display or anything and the primers were just there, not even near the beauty section, as if this was something not to go crazy about.

Basically, I didn't care what my bank account was telling me. I immediately bought the two sample size primers and I wasn't going to regret it one bit when I got back home. The two sample primers retailed for about $5.99, which is MORE than half the original full size one. Now think about it, these are two pretty good sample sizes. You don't need a lot of primer, you'll probably need a pea size amount, and you'll still have weeks to maybe months of good wear and tear of this product. What I also like about this is that it'll help me determine even better whether or not I want to fork over $20 for a bottle of this primer. Just in case I didn't like it, I know I would have totally regretted the whole thing and be mad at myself for buying it in the first place. Oh, the price we pay being broke and loving makeup at the same time. My wallet is so sad right now :(

Anyways, moving on from my woes, I tried out each primer for a week and I really put it to the test. I love my primers and because of the price, I had super high expectations. Let's read what L'oreal has to say about these primers.

L'oreal Revitalift Miracle Blur Claims: Miracle Blur instantly erases the look of lines, wrinkles, and pores. Skin instantly looks and feels smooth, leaving a velvet soft matte finish that lasts all day. (www.lorealparisusa.com)

L'oreal Youthcode Pore Vanisher Claims: Fresh, airy cream minimizes the look of pores with a soft focus finish. (www.lorealparisusa.com)

And that's all the claims with each primer, so let's get on with the review!

I'd like to first talk about the Miracle Blur primer. The packaging is a squeeze tube, which I personally love and because it is a sample size (a deluxe one!) it is perfect for traveling. I'm a working girl now (applause applause) and sometimes I wake up late in the morning. I'm not a morning person at all! So, I don't have time to put on makeup, eat breakfast, and drive in the 45 minutes I give myself to get to work. Therefore, I like to just pop a primer, a small foundation, powder, some blush, a cream eyeshadow, and some liner and I can just do my makeup in the parking lot before I clock in to work. Not only do I love the packaging but this primer will last me a good while. It's 0.5 fl oz, which is really a lot if you think about it! You just need a small amount and this can really last for months.

Moving on from the packaging and convenience, is the actual product itself. The primer is white and is actually pretty thick. It doesn't glide as smoothly as a silicone base primer would. This would be good for people who don't like silicone primers but for me I like to have a smoother application rather than a tough one. I definitely feel like I have to apply more to make it even all around my face.

It definitely has a sunscreen scent to it, which I personally don't like because I feel like I'm rubbing on actual sunscreen (which I hate to do).  This product does have SPF 30 in it. Thankfully, the scent doesn't linger on for too long but it is definitely there for a couple of minutes. Aside from the scent I can see that it definitely did "blur" my pores. The finish of the primer did make my skin matte and the texture of my skin felt smooth. My face looked even and ready for foundation. Once I did put foundation over this primer, it looked smooth and my pores were really almost unnoticeable.

Next is whether this primer wore well throughout the day. The foundation that I chose to wear was an average lasting foundation that I knew wouldn't effect the result of the primer. Overall, the primer lasted really well. My face was matte throughout the day and my pores were still unnoticeable. The foundation held up well against the primer. The thing was I did feel a bit greasy at the very very very end of the day and I could feel like sunscreen was melting off my skin. Keep in mind I had a full face of makeup for about 10 hours at that point. I think this primer lasts for a good 6 - 8 hours.

Pros:

  • Packaging is convenient
  • Actually does make pores appear "blurred"
  • Gives a matte finish
  • Sits well under foundation and over moisturizer
  • Lasts for a good amount of time
  • Has SPF 30

Cons:

  • Very thick and doesn't apply smoothly
  • Has a sunscreen scent (I personally hate it)
  • Felt greasy at the very end of the day

Overall Thoughts:

I do like this primer because of the effect it gives. I just really don't like the scent and the thickness of the product. To me, it makes me feel uncomfortable when I apply it on my skin. I honestly don't reach for this as much as the other primer that I will review below. I like how my skin looks after the primer has settled and I like its overall lasting power.

Next up is the Pore Vanisher primer. It is the same simple packaging as the sample size Revitalift Miracle Blur primer. Again, it is perfect for traveling or for just popping it in your purse or makeup bag. I love the convenience!

Now let's check out what the product actually looks like. Above, I have a nice swatch of the primer. You can see that it is a tan color unlike the white color of the Miracle Blur primer. This has absolutely no scent to it and this applies on much smoother than the previous primer. You can check out the ingredients on the L'oreal website but I don't think this has silicone in it. But for some reason, I feel like I don't have to use as much product as I tend to do with the Miracle Blur.

This primer claims to minimize the look of pores with a soft focus finish. Upon first application, I can definitely see that my pores looked faded. I believe that this is a type of primer that you have to use consistently to see true results. It won't minimize your pores right away but it will definitely help to blur them. My skin looked really good overall. I have large pores on my cheeks and it did a good job minimizing the look of them. The texture of my skin felt smooth and even. I applied my everyday makeup routine over it and my makeup looked good. The primer definitely has a blurring effect instead of just filling in my pores. You can still see it but the pores looks faded. After a good full day, about 6 - 8 hours, of wearing the primer my makeup still looked good.  I didn't feel as oily/greasy as I did with the L'oreal Revitalift but still some oil did seep through.

Pros:
  • Packaging is convenient
  • Applies on smoothly
  • No scent
  • "Blurs" pores and evens out texture of skin
  • Makeup looks good over it
  • Lasts for a good amount of time

Cons:
  • Doesn't minimize the size of my pores as it claims
  • Some oil did come through at the end of the day

Overall Thoughts:

As you can see, I like this primer a lot better than the L'oreal Revitalift. The application is much smoother and it doesn't smell like sunscreen (yuck!). It did help blur my pores and my makeup looked good over it. It doesn't feel heavy on my skin at all and I didn't feel greasy. I enjoy this a lot more than the Revitalift primer. I don't necessarily love this primer yet or at least enough to want to buy the full size but I do like it better than the other primer. I'll still continue using both and see if what each primer claims really does happen but other than that I think this is a good primer but not a great one.
