Hurray for another Flashback Foundations Friday! I hope you all are enjoying these posts as much as I am.
Today, I'll be talking about the Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Stick Foundation. I remember these being advertised a lot of the T.V. and because the concept of it seemed intriguing, I immediately bought it. I bought this foundation a long time ago when it first came out but never really got around to trying it out and talking about it here on the blog post. I've been sifting through all my makeup lately and discovered that I had maybe worn this foundation once or twice. I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to not only include this in our FFF's but to also wear it more often.
So, I wore this for an entire week straight and here is what Maybelline had to say about the product.
Claims: Our first gel stick foundation with an anti shine core. Fresh gel foundation blends to a natural matte finish. Lightweight powders in the anti shine core instantly dissolve excess oil. It's one step perfection. The first of its kind - lightweight gel stick foundation with an anti shine core: powder core instantly dissolves excess oil, for flawless shine free skin and tailor made natural matte coverage, and easy to apply and great on the go. This has been out now for quite some time now but some may still be interested in buying it. I still do see these in the drugstores lately so it is still accessible to all. Please comment below and let me know if you enjoy our FFF's posts and let's get on with the review!
I like to first talk about the packaging of this foundation. It's been a while since I've seen a stick foundation in the drugstores. I think the last time I saw one was from Wet N' Wild in 2010. Wow...long time ago lol. The Maybelline Fit Me Foundation stick comes in a sleek and compact packaging. It has a black and silver white color scheme with a plastic top. It's a little cheap but because it fits in the palm of my hand it is super travel friendly, which is always a plus.
The stick foundation twists up to reveal the product. I have the color 330, Toffee Caramel. I got this around the summertime last year so it is my summer color and I'm slowly transitioning to that. So when I recently started to test it out, it did look a little dark but giirrrlll I worked with it just for the blog (hehe).
Here's what the foundation looks like swatched. I applied the foundation on my skin using my t-zone as a reference and then placing it in areas where it looked like I needed more coverage. I was using this as a double up for concealer. It blended in really nicely on the skin. The finish of this actually goes from a cream to a powder finish. I actually quite like it. It felt smooth and nice on my skin. As for a matte coverage, I could see that. I didn't see any shine on my skin. But it did definitely give me even coverage and hid away some of my problem spots. However, it was not able to fully cover my nose, which is redder than the rest of my face.
My first impression of the foundation was overall good. Now to test for the wear of it throughout the day! Since the summer here on the East coast has been a bit wonky, there had have few days where it has been scorching hot and then a few where it is cool. So, the foundation has gone through a full week of this weird summer weather.
As I was checking the foundation throughout the day, I did see some oil on my skin. This product promised me that my face would be shine free throughout the day. I can excuse it during 80 degree weather because you just can't help but sweat. but during 60 degree weather? I was a little disappointed.
At the end of the day my t-zone was oily like it usually is. The foundation wasn't long lasting in those areas but for the areas where I'm dry it still looked good. My overall face was still even tone but my red areas were definitely rid of any coverage.
Pros:
- compact and travel friendly
- foundation is in a stick form, no mess!
- foundation blends easily on the skin
- cream to powder finish
- lightweight
- light to medium coverage
- matte finish
- a large range of colors
Cons:
- not long lasting
- oil/shine will come through
- redness on my skin came through
Overall Thoughts:
I'm a bit in the middle in regards to my thoughts about this foundation. What I like about it is that it is compact and super easy to use. It blends well on the skin and the finish looks great. The wear of this foundation though is what bothers me. I am an on the go type of girl. I don't do touch ups at all and I look for makeup products that will give me lasting power. What I expected from this foundation was to be shine free all day because this is the basis of the product. I can say I was shine free for a couple of hours but after the wear and tear of the day, my oilness shined through.
