Review: Stila In the Garden Eye Shadow Palette

Hey guys! Spring and Summer is the time where I become a little more "adventurous" with my makeup looks. I put adventurous in quotations because I don't go all-out with my eye looks. If I want to incorporate some color, I usually do so with one color, whether it be in the lower lash line, in the crease, or simply on the lid. I bought the Stila in the Garden palette a while ago because I thought it would be the easiest way to incorporate color into my looks.

This palette includes 10 eyeshadows, 1 matte and 9 shimmer. However you could argue that the bottom left shadow is matte, since the shimmer doesn't really appear. Most of the colors are neutral, everyday colors, but the 3 AMAZINGLY-GORGEOUS  jewel-toned colors on the right made me buy this palette. THEY ARE JUST AMAZING. Now onto the swatches!!!

(L-R) Chinois, Breeze, Bark, Freesia, Rosette

Chinois- This is a matte white/cream shade. It would be perfect as a brow bone color.

Breeze- This is a light silver color.

Bark- This is a medium gray color. It has decent color payoff when you swatch it once, however this can be easily built up into a darker, more intense color.

Freesia- This is a gorgeous royal blue color. The color swatched isn't as bold as it is in the pan, but you can build it up to a more concentrated color.

Rosette- This is an amazing orchid color. When I want to add color to my makeup look, I apply this color to the lower lash line for a subtle hint of something. I've gotten many complements on my eye look with this color, so this is definitely an amazing color.

(L-R)  Nectar, Honey, Sage, Moss, Juniper

Nectar- This is a light cream color. This has the slightest bit of shimmer, however you cannot tell there is. It looks matte on the eye and even when it is swatched.

Honey- This is a beautiful medium gold color. It is a beautiful color to use for an everyday eye look.

Sage- This is a dark-ish, aqua green color. This is a really interesting color, because it is something I usually don't gravitate towards. Nonetheless, it is a beautiful color.

Moss- This is dark, green-brown color. I think its name really suits the color. It has gold flecks throughout.

Juniper- This is a beautiful pine green color. It has decent color payoff, and it can definitely build up to a stronger, more intense pigmentation.

Pros
  • Good variety of color
  • Good pigmentation
  • Easy to build up and blend
Cons
  • No mirror
  • Needs a better variety of finishes

Overall Thoughts:

All the colors are beautiful. Some are more pigmented than other, but it is kinda a good thing that the bolder colors aren't as pigmented. I think it is better to build up color, rather than smack on a bold a color all at once. This way, you can control the intensity and make sure everything is as flawless and smooth as possible. The shadows are also easy to blend together.

The packaging is a hard cardboard material with a magnetic closure. Unfortunately, there isn't a mirror, which makes the palette a little less practical. In place of a mirror, there is a cute quote. A smudge stick waterproof eye liner is also included in the shade Starfish.

This palette is great for those of you who want to incorporate more color into your looks. The jewel tones aren't too bright and bold, so it would be easy to achieve neutral looks with subtle hints of color. I think this is a great palette, but it isn't something I reach for everyday.
