Beauty Blunder: Almay Shadow Softies

There are always those beauty items that we hope and pray works out because its concept is so interesting but when you take it home and try it, its just eh. This is what I like to call a beauty blunder.

This is my first time showcasing a new segment on our blog. I was originally going to put this under "Makeup Finds Of The Month" but I feel that has a more positive light to it therefore I need either an okay or great product for it. So I decided on doing blunders because we all have experienced this.

For my first ever beauty blunder, I present the Almay Shadow Softies. I kept seeing these at Target and thought the colors and the concept of it was interesting. Here is what it claims.

Claims: Light as air, whipped powder shadows provide pure color. Choose from 12 matte and metallic shades to create a crease -free look. Hypoallergenic, ophthalmologist tested, made for sensitive eyes. (info from www.target.com)

These shadow softies are all single eyeshadows ranging from browns, purples, pinks, and greens. I actually see them coming in twos, with matching colors like a dark purple with a lilac, at Target now for $5. So, you get two for the price of one. I don't know if Target is still doing this but that's not a bad deal if you want to try it.

I have this shadow softie in 125 Creme Brûlée and you can see how gorgeous it looks like in the pan. At first glance, I was super intrigued. After pondering for a while whether or not I should buy it, I eventually did. I only bought one because each shadow costs about $5 and I was not about to buy a bunch of colors that I might not even like. I got the most basic color because I knew it was the type of color I could see myself using frequently.

This is what the shadow looks like swatched, after five times, and it still didn't show up that well. The shadow itself is very soft and almost has a mousse like texture. I like that it is soft but there is little to no pigmentation at all. I can barely get this to show up on my eyelids and it's hard to build up as well. The slightest oil on your hands will ruin the color and texture so if you were to buy this your hands must be thoroughly clean if you're planning to use your fingers. With a brush, it's the same deal.

Now in a more positive note, if you like the sheer look I think you can definitely work with this. For an everyday look, this shadow will just give you a nice sheen to the eye. Because I don't want to not use this product, I've decided to put it on top of eyeshadows that I feel needs a oomph in the glitter department. I like it that way the best.

So whether you do want to give this product a go is up to you. But to me, this is a...
