Review: Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser

How excited was everyone else when Maybelline announced that they were launching their Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser in America?! Because, I sure was! I mean I've seen other people haul it in videos but it was only available in the asian market. I didn't want to pay shipping and what not to get a very affordable product in stores. Besides, I don't have any close friends in Asia to have them send it to me.

Now that America finally has it, I made a beeline to the drugstore. I knew from watching beauties on youtube that I was most likely to find this primer at CVS. And I actually did find it, which is a miracle for me because I never find new products so easily.

CVS had hidden the display on like a low shelf in the back with other new drugstore products, so it wasn't displayed proudly like the new Maybelline Elixirs (which there will be a review up on that soon). They had a couple left so I snagged one for a pretty affordable price of $7.99. I bet it was like $6 in other stores but I knew if I didn't just grab the one at CVS I wouldn't be able to find it anywhere else.

So, with my overexcitement in hand, let's review the product!

Claims: Poreless Smooth Skin Perfection! One second to smooth, poreless skin. Get mistake-proof, poreless smooth skin with Maybelline New York Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer. Visibly pore blurring smooth skin. (Info from: www.ulta.com)

First off can I just say how adorable the packaging is?! About 90% of me just wanted this product for the packaging (Omg, isn't that really bad?! I mean...we all do it). But I mean look how cute it is. It's a bright teal blue squeeze tube with hot pink cartoon lettering. The primer is quite small, fitting in the palm on my hand, and I can just throw it in a travel or makeup bag and I'm good to go. I love squeeze tube packaging a lot. I just even want to display it on my desk just because it is so darn cute. This product comes with .67 fl oz or 20 ml. Not the typical 1 fl oz but not bad. I'm pretty sure this product will last me a couple of months if used consistently everyday.

This is what the primer looks like from right out of the tube. The texture of the primer is quiet thick and has an overwhelming silicone feel to it. I don't mind that at all, I actually prefer it because I find silicone just glides on the skin more smoothly.

When I apply this on my face it almost feels like syrup because of the thickness. It takes me a bit more time to blend the primer into my face but the thickness goes away as you blend. My face feels very smooth after application and I really like it. As I let the primer sink in I can see that my pores did look visibly smaller. It definitely doesn't shrink my pores but blurs the appearance of them pretty well.

I put on foundation right after the primer dried up and saw that the application of my foundation looked better and smoother. My pores were not noticeable at all, especially around my nose area where it is the biggest. The primer felt lightweight on the skin and the foundation applied on smoothly over it. The overall look was great and I saw that the primer really held up to its claims.

Now for the wear throughout the day, it was decent. It was surprisingly long lasting, about six hours, before I started to see some oiliness on my t-zone and some redness here and there. Now it didn't promise anything about longevity but it did promise to lessen the appearance of my pores. At hour six, I can see my pores a little bit. It wasn't bad at all. I would say you can get a long enough wear from this. It definitely won't last you all night but it is decent for a day's out.

Pros:
  • Hygienic packaging
  • Cute packaging (always a plus!)
  • Feels smooth and lightweight on the skin
  • Blends well
  • Blurs the appearance of my pores really well
  • Semi longlasting (about six hours before I saw imperfections again)
Cons:
  • Very silicone base (it's a pro for me but may be a con for others)
  • Very thick like syrup
  • Takes time to blend
  • Primer takes time to dry
  • Less than 1 fl oz of product

Overall Thoughts:

In my opinion this is not one of the best drugstore primers out in the drugstore but for what it claims it is a pretty decent one. I like how it blurs out my pores and makes my overall appearance look even. My skin feels and look smooth when I apply this primer and when I put foundation on top it doesn't ruin it. Now I don't like how thick it is and how long it takes to blend and dry. I need to get out of the house in less than ten minutes sometimes! I do enjoy this primer the more I use so I think if you have a couple dollars to spare, try this out! Well before they take it out in stores.

Grade:

A
