Hello everybody! Today I have an interesting post to blog about and this is something that hasn't been done on Amaryllis Living.
We were approached by email by the owner of a cellphone app called MakeupSocial to check it out. As makeup and beauty lovers, we were super intrigued because for one we'd never heard of it and second it would be fun to check out a beauty app because we don't use any beauty apps at all. So, of course we replied back and immediately downloaded MakeupSocial.
MakeupSocial is a free app that you can get on the app store for IPhone. I'm not sure if it's on the Android...yet but from the research I did I don't think it is on the Android. Now here's a brief description of the app that I found on the iTunes store.
Makeupsocial is the fun new social network for beauty.
Get unbiased beauty advice, reviews and collect beauty products into your beautyshelf whilst stalking and recommending beauty products to your friends, family and beauty lovers.
We have tailored the entire beauty experience in this app such as the reviews, advice and photos to your very own beauty profile. Find a product to suit your skin type, age and skin tone from other people who are similar to you.
I love my apps (who else is obsessed with the Kim Kardashian Hollywood game?!) and when I saw the description of MakeupSocial, I got super excited. I immediately thought this would be a great way to connect with other beauties and participate more in the beauty community as well.
For this app review, I'll have a specific breakdown of what I look for in liking and keeping an app on my phone. We'll talk accessibility and ease, features, design, and any cons I may have with this app.
If you want to learn more about MakeupSocial go on and click Read More!
You can access MakeupSocial on either your phone or on the computer. I prefer to use this app on my phone because there are more features.
When you open MakeupSocial you'll be prompted to sign up with either an email address or with a Facebook account. Once you've signed up you'll be taken to the feed. The feed is where you'll find posts from who you're following, the latest activity from users, and a needs help where you can help out other users.
On the bottom of your screen you'll see a row of icons that is your menu. You can jump from feed to discover, add your own post, look at reviews, and check out/edit your profile. With discover you can see the photos, posts, and products that are currently trending on the app. You can like and comment other beauties posts as well. My favorite is looking at the trending products. From face to lips, there are products that users are loving and users are able to comment and rate the items as well. The app also has the option to buy the product in which it will take you to a website where you can find and buy it.

For the reviews section of the app, you can search and check out trending reviews. I use this especially when I'm out shopping and I stumble upon a beauty item. This is a great way to quickly check out reviews from beauty peers and see whether to purchase it or not. This has saved me from wasting any money on beauty products I probably would not have liked. You can also post your own review or just a simple post and it'll be seen in the review and feed section.
Lastly is your profile. You can customize your profile to your particular beauty profile. From your skin tone to your skin type to the color of your eyes and your hair color, your beauty profile is completely you. This feature helps you determine products that are right for you and find other beauties who match your profile to see what products they've been loving and using.
So that is the basic gist of what MakeupSocial is all about. I personally really like this app and I think this is a great app for other beauty lovers like me. As for accessibility and ease, this app is pretty easy to use and to follow. It's very much like other social media apps and has the concept of Twitter and Instagram in it except it's all about beauty.
The features on this app are truly fun. I can post any beauty questions I may have and post pictures of my MOTD or even OOTD's. As a blogger I can post that I have a new blog post on the blog or share a review on a product. I like that I can see what other people are doing in the makeup world and I can gather inspiration from others. I love looking at creative makeup looks and trends. What I absolutely love the most is the reviews. I'm an impulsive makeup buyer (aren't we all?) and I love reading the reviews on products and seeing the insight others have before buying a product.
The design of the app is cute with the theme colors of pink and white. It's very girl and I love it. MakeupSocial is constantly being updated and fixing bugs but so far I have no complaints on the design.
The only con I have about this app is that it can get redundant. There are many times where I'll see the same post over and over again on different days. It's really dependent on who you follow. This sometimes makes your feed boring. Maybe news about new launches of makeup brands, new makeup collections, or any entertainment aspect of makeup could be fun to add.
Overall Thoughts:
So, will I keep this app on my phone? Yes! I think this is fun for people who are interested in beauty or who want to be interested in beauty. It let's me know what makeup people are loving and gives me inspiration to try out new looks and products. I love the reviews and I think they're helpful when it comes to buying makeup. I can see this app growing and being something many beauties will turn to. Give this app a chance. It won't hurt to try!
