Hey guys! It has been a while since I (Jalisa) have written a blog post. You know how it is, with college and everything--it just becomes too overwhelming and there is literally no time for anything other than school. College right? Anyways, I am back for the summer and ready to get more reviews and such back on the blog! So today, I am going to review the Essence Get Big! Lashes mascara.
The Essence website provides a very "infomercial-like" description of this mascara:
sad romantic movies, tears of joy, sweaty athletic activities or a jump into cold water - the get BIG! lashes volume boost mascara waterproof is an ideal companion, no matter what the occasion! it offers perfect lashes without smudging and conjures-up mega volume de luxe - even when you go diving! an absolutely reliable styling partner!
Honestly, I bought the mascara a while ago and have thrown it out since. Don't worry, I have some things to say about this mascara, good and bad.

Honestly, I bought the mascara a while ago and have thrown it out since. Don't worry, I have some things to say about this mascara, good and bad.
The brush reminds me of the Diorshow Mascara. It is a big wand that tapers near the end. It is somewhat cone/funnel-shaped. The actual bristles are pretty long, so it is great for volumizing and lengthening your eyelashes. I wore this mascara for a couple weeks and it performed amazingly on my sparse, thin, and short eyelashes. It really gave me that false-lashes effect. This stayed on great throughout the day, however, it smudges a little. It isn't the mascara's fault, but I have oily eyelids and when I close my eyes for too long, mascara just transfers. I also remember that removing this mascara was difficult, because it was waterproof. But hey, at least you know that this won't budge throughout the day. Other than that, this was an amazing mascara.
Now, prepare yourself. Despite my glowing reviews of the mascara's performance, I will never buy this mascara ever again. One night, I was going out with my friends and applied this mascara. I ignored my gut feeling, but I knew something was wrong, because I felt a pain in my eye--this was a pain I have experienced before. Lo and behold, the next morning, one of my eyes formed a stye. If you don't know what it is, it is basically an eye pimple that is swollen and gross. Although I put makeup on everyday, this mascara was the only that changed in my routine. So, after that incident, I threw it straight into the trash. I have experienced styes before and routinely applied green tea bags to my eye, but this is not something I, or anyone, should have to deal with. I may have been unlucky and chose a bad one, or I don't even know. It just didn't work out.
Overall Thoughts:
My bad experience with this mascara doesn't mean that you will experience the same thing, but I just want to let you know that this happened. I wish it didn't, because prior to the stye I got, this product was amazing.
Pros:
- Great for volume and length
- Stays on all day
Cons:
- Personal experience was bad
Grade: B
Price:
$3.99

Oh, I'm so sad about your experience, it was a bad allergy! It has happened to me before but in case of stress or lack of sleep... a sort of reaction to big stressfactors.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least it happened with low cost product so you haven't lost a lot.
Thank you for your review and have a nice day!!!
Thanks for the comment! Bacteria in the actual product may also be a factor, but who knows. These things happen and you are right, I am glad that this was a low cost product, or else I would have been a lot sadder :)
DeleteThat definitely doesn't sound pleasant at all. I've been planning on doing a all-in-one review of the Essence mascaras since they're so affordable but since stye's really arn't my thing I think I'll be giving this one a miss. At least you know for next time! :)

Thank you for commenting! That sounds like it'll be an interesting post. Don't let my mishap with this mascara prevent you from trying it, though, because I really do think it is a great mascara :)
DeleteI'll be staying away from this mascara, I have sensitive and oily skin so will probably experience the same as you, xoxo.
ReplyDeleteAwww yeah you might! I wish that this didn't happen. It seemed like a great mascara upon first application. Thanks for commenting!!!
DeleteSo glad I read this post. I love trying new mascara's but I wont be trying this. Thanks for the heads up x

I'm glad that you read this post too! We love people who do and comment as well. I just checked out your blog, fabulous layout! Yeah, this mascara wasn't great but if you haven't already, you should give other Essence products a try! There are some good ones. We might do a blog post featuring Essence cosmetics...
