Review: Garnier 5 Second Blur Skin Renew Instant Smoother

Hello everybody and welcome to another review! Today I have the Garnier 5 Second Blur Skin Renew Instant Smoother. My goodness is this one a mouthful. This is relatively new at the drugstore and is a primer for your face.

The drugstore has been coming out with a lot of primers for this spring and this particular product peaked my interest.

Claims: Garnier's Skin Renew 5 Second Blur Instant Smoother is a new generation product. It's designed to instantly blur the visible signs of aging including: wrinkles, fine lines, flaws, and visible pores. In 5 seconds, skin feels smoother, looks younger, and is more radiant. (www.ulta.com)

These are amazing claims for this product and I was certainly intrigued by it. So let's get on with the review!

This Garnier primer comes in a light pink squeeze tube. The interesting thing about the design is the end part where the product comes out...LOL I don't know what that's called, the nozzle? Well anyways it actually controls how much of the primer can come out. At first I was annoyed by this because it took long to get the amount I want but in the end it saves product. Overall I like the packaging and I'm pretty sure most primers come this way.

The primer comes out white and is very smooth. I was surprised to see how smoothly and easily it blended on my face. The texture of the primer is really soft with just a hint of silicone. Some primers are basically made up of just silicone but this one doesn't have a lot of it. I do like silicone base primers but sometimes it can feel greasy. This, doesn't.

(swatch rubbed in)

I have quite noticeable pores around my nose area and inner cheeks so I'm always looking out for a primer that says it can blur/vanish the appearance of them. So I was super excited when this product said "instantly blurs". I took a dime size amount on the back of my hand and immediately applied it on my nose and inner cheeks. The texture was again smooth and it was easy to apply with. I think that this is one of the best feeling drugstore primers I own.

Once I had concentrated on those areas on my face, I quickly looked in the mirror to see what the results would be. I was very surprised to find that it DID makes my pores look blurred. It didn't vanish them or minimize them but they looked blurred. I really liked the look of my pores at this point and my nose looked so much better. I applied the rest of the primer around my face. My skin felt so much smoother and I just couldn't help constantly feeling my face (with clean hands!). The phrase "smooth as a baby's butt" definitely applies to this primer. Now I don't know if my face looked younger and radiant but I know it was instantly smoother.

After that I put on the rest of my makeup and did my usually routine. I checked my face with makeup on and I loved the results. Honestly, my makeup looked so much better especially around the area where I have the biggest pores. The BB cream I had on at the time looked practically flawless over the primer and sometimes that BB cream doesn't look good on my skin.

Now for the wear time, Garnier doesn't claim that the primer is supposed to be long lasting. But of course what kind of review would this be if I didn't test out the wear? So throughout the day I decided to test the smoothness and how my makeup would stay against the primer. By the end of the day my skin was still just as smooth as when I started. Although I can see that my BB Cream did fade around the areas that I'm most oiliest (?). Which I can blame on the BB Cream itself and partially on the primer but it never said it was supposed to be long lasting.

Pros:
  • Comes in a squeeze tube (hygienic and easy to use!)
  • Product is super smooth and easy to apply
  • Does not have too much silicone in it
  • Pores did look blurred
  • Face was instantly smoother
  • Makeup looked fantastic over primer
  • Face stayed smooth all day

Cons:
  • Nozzle of tube distributes weirdly
  • Not long lasting
  • Price
Overall Thoughts:

This is a great drugstore primer, I believe it is one of the best that I've tried. I love how amazingly smooth my skin feels right after I use it and how great my makeup looks over it. The only true problem that I have is the longevity. Yes, it doesn't promise me that it'll have long lasting wear, but I think essentially besides smoothing your skin, it is what a primer is supposed to do. I wouldn't buy this for longevity but if you want a smooth and even appearance, this primer is perfect.
