Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette: Swatches & Review

I FINALLY GOT THE URBAN DECAY NAKED 3 PALETTE!!! This has been a long time coming. I've been lusting over this palette ever since it was launched and I finally have it! My goodness, was this hard to track down. I saw it at Macy's in my hometown but at that time I didn't have enough money for it. When I finally got the money, it was all gone. I waited another month or so before I found it again at Ulta, all beautifully restocked. I grabbed one and couldn't wait to get home and try it out.

Can I tell you that I opened the palette with the utmost care? Like, I didn't want to rip it or anything and I'm not that kind of person. I'm the kid at Christmas that rip open presents and throw it up in the air acting like I don't have to clean any of that up later. I just could not deal with all the excitement.

I've had this palette for a couple of weeks now and I can say that I have a pretty good opinion about it. So let's get on with the swatches and review!

Here is an inside look of the palette. Again, I'm so sorry for the quality all of these pictures were taken with my iPhone. I don't have a proper camera here at school and the one I usually use is my dad's so...I can't take that from him. I am saving up for a nicer camera! So please bear with us for now!

Claims: Experiment with 12 never before seen (and insanely beautiful) rose hued neutrals- from pale shimmery pink to deep matte black with rosy red micro glitter. Choose from every finish imaginable: ultra smooth mattes, gorgeous pearls, and glimmering metallics. From the palest shimmery pink to deep, warm black, these neutrals will make you want to get Naked all over again. Every shade features our Pigment Infusion System, the proprietary blend of ingredients that gives each shade its velvety texture, rich color, serious staying power, and blendability. (info from: www.urbandecay.com)

The palette comes with twelve eyeshadows, all ranging in neutral toned pinks. It also comes with a double ended eyeshadow brush and a sample packet of all fours of the Urban Decay eye primers, the original, sin, eden, and the anti-aging primer. I'm really happy that Urban Decay decided to put those samples in there because I've only tried the original primer. I'd rather have sample than to go out and buy them without trying because they are a bit pricey. And these are good size samples as well! It says it'll last for a whole week but I've only used up the original since I got the palette. I can't wait to try out the others. And I like the brush as well. It's soft and such high quality and it packs the eyeshadows on well. I especially like the blending side of the brush.

The packaging is identical to the Naked 2 palette, their art box inspired tin. The outside color is a gorgeous muted pink embellished with rose gold lettering. When you open the palette it has a giant mirror that takes up the top half of the palette and then you have all your shadows at the bottom. I love the way the palette snaps close, its been designed this way since Naked 2 and it was such a great idea. It is by far, in my opinion the prettiest made Naked palette.

Here are swatches of the first six eyeshadows in the palette. Omg, sorry for my hairy arms jeez man they were unruly that day. Omg, so gross. Anyways, the first six shadows are in the light pink spectrum slowly getting darker. I'll be talking about each individual eyeshadow from left to right.

Strange- This is the first color of the palette and is the lightest shade. It's a very very pale pink almost white color. It has a matte finish to it and is a good highlight for the eyebrows. Now it's a little too light for me to use as a highlight because it can look to be too much. Someone with a lighter skintone may appreciate this more. It's a very pigmented color but it is one of my least used shadows.

Dust- This eyeshadow is a light metallic pink and the name of the color is perfect for the way it applies on. It looks like a dust of pale pink on my eyelids. I personally don't like this that much because my skintone makes the color look gaudy and it has a shimmer finish. I would not recommend using this as an all over eyelid color but rather as an inner corner highlight if you are my skintone or deeper. Sometimes I'll dust this over a dark shadow to add a bit of brightness to my eye look.  This shadow is definitely one of the softer and more delicate type, it's almost too powdery. So use this with a light hand.

Burnout- Next up is this gorgeous pinky peach eyeshadow. It has a satin finish and to me is a perfect shadow for a light wash of color over your eyelids. This is my lazy girl eyeshadow (I live for the lazy girl makeup) and when I apply it on it just makes my face instantly brightened. I prefer the satin finishes in this palette the best because I think it is the most natural to wear on an everyday basis.

Limit- This is the first of the two matte eyeshadows featured in this palette. This is a light dusty mauve pink with a hint of a purple undertone. This a great crease color and really compliments all the other shadows in this palette. For an everyday look I go for this eyeshadow the most to blend out my shadow in the crease. The mattes are wonderful as usual.

Buzz- Now this is a super pigmented metallic rose color. The finish is a shimmer and is gorgeous on the lids. This is easily one of my other most used shadows from the palette. Again, you can use this as the only eyeshadow for your eye look that day and it'll look like you tried hard. I honestly have nothing bad to say.

Trick- Trick is a pinky copper shimmer shadow and definitely reminds me of the Naked 1 palette. I like that Urban Decay threw in a copper type of shadow because when you think of natural everyday looks you think of browns, coppers, and golds. This still has the pink undertone keeping to the essence of this palette.

And that was all of the first six eyeshadows, now let's move on to the final six which are the darker pinky tone colors.

Again, I will be talking about each shadow from left to right referring to the swatches above.

Nooner- So because I don't know what the heck a nooner means, I looked it up for the sake of this review and it means an event that occurs in the middle of the day especially an act of sexual intercourse. Um....okay? Now that I look at this shadow...so awkward. ANYWAYS! This is a matte pinky brown. Sorry that it looks darker in the picture but it can get that dark if you build it up. I like to use this for when I want to deepen my looks. It's a great crease color if you're transitioning your eye look from day to night. Again, I love the mattes of all the Naked palettes.

Liar- This shadow is a beautiful mauve pink with a bit of shimmer. This is so beautiful in natural lighting. The shimmer just pops. And, it's one of those shadows where I find that I don't need a crease color. If you continuously blend you can get such a nice effect and it looks live you've tried for the day. This is my favorite to put on when I'm going out at night. It's so beautiful.

Factory- Next up is this eyeshadow which is another pinky brown but with a satin finish. It's basically the darker version of Liar. I like it but I don't normally go for it on an everyday basis. This type of eyeshadow is one I would go for when I want a darker look.

Mugshot- Now this a different shadow from the rest. It is a metallic gray pink with a shimmer. It looks gray in the pan but when swatched you can really see the pink undertone. I think this is a really unique shadow because it is a nice dark gray but it gives you pink flecks. It's so pretty. Once again these last few are my least used shadows but I like them.

Darkside- Darkside is a deep taupe almost a brown purple shadow with pink glitters. It is such a beautiful color. I love to pop this over a dark brown cream shadow because it really makes the purple pop. This is a great shadow for a natural smokey eye.

Blackheart- This eyeshadow is another unique shadow of the palette. It is this surprisingly soft black with gorgeous pinky red glitters. My goodness is this beautiful. It shines so beautiful in natural light. I wore this out as one of the main colors in my black smokey eye look and it did not look harsh at all. It blended perfectly and I love the softness of the shadow.

Phew! And that is all I have to say about each individual eyeshadow. Boy, was that lengthy! Haha thanks if you're still with me here.

Pros:
  • Amazing packaging
  • Beautiful ranges of light pinks and dark pinks
  • Comes with a good sample size of all Urban Decay primer potions
  • Comes with an amazing quality dual ended brush
  • Eyeshadows are super pigmented
  • Great quality
  • Very wearable
  • Lasts all day
Cons:
  • Price
  • Not all eyeshadows look good on certain skin types
Overall Thoughts:

Overall, I really love this palette. I love pink tone eyeshadows and this is the perfect palette for that. I wouldn't suggest this for those who are not necessarily keen to pinks. If you were to ask me which of the three Naked palettes you should get if you don't have any of three, I would tell you to get the first one. It is the most basic and most brown/golden neutral of all the three palettes. It's great for a nice starter palette. If you're a makeup junkie like me, it's fun to have and try out all three Naked palettes. The down side is definitely the price. It pained me as a college student to buy this but I believe it to be worth the price. You get twelve amazing and highly pigmented shadows plus a dual ended brush plus a great sample size of all the Urban Decay primer potion. If you break it down it does seem to equal the amount of the price maybe even a bit cheaper.
