Hello fellow beauties and welcome to a Flashback Foundations Friday. As one can see, I have a slight addiction to foundations. I'm always on the hunt for new ones and always wanting to try them all out. Which, takes a toll on my foundation drawer and on my wallet. So this segment of the blog is all about foundations that are already at the store and are in my collection. Since a lot of the foundations at the store aren't necessarily new but are still available, I figured why not review those as well instead of just new ones! Since I've been using these foundations for some time my review of it will be more precise instead of first impressions type.
Anyways, I heard of this foundation, the Maybelline Super Stay Makeup Foundation, through youtuber cutesygirl09, who made a video featuring it. Her skin looked absolutely gorgeous and flawless that I wanted to get the foundation right away. It comes in 8 shades and I got this foundation over the summer so the color is darker than what I am in the winter. I've tried it a couple of times in the summer and in the winter (I actually made the color work!) to get a good consensus on what I think of this product.
Claims: Stays comfortable and looks naturally flawless all day. Micro-Flex formula provides 24-hour wear and no transfer. Withstands heat, sweat and humidity. Oil-free, dermatologist-tested, fragrance-free. Suitable for all skin types. (Information from Maybelline website).
These are amazing claims made by Maybelline. So, let's get on with the review!
As per usual let's talk about the packaging since that is what catches the eye of a makeup lover first. The foundation comes in a glass bottle with no pump. It's pretty sleek and it has a good weight to it. The cap is white and twists to open. Packaging wise, it's okay. It would have been nicer and more hygienic with a pump and easier to use but I don't hate the glass bottle. The foundation itself does comes out easily because it's not too runny or too thick, which I like.
When applied, the texture of the foundation applies on so smoothly. I had no problems blending the product in. Because this is a summer foundation for me (it's in my summer color) and I'm reviewing this in the winter it is a bit darker on me. But! Miraculously I made it work to be wearable throughout the day. From what I remember from wearing this foundation in the summer, was that the color matched perfectly. As I let the foundation settle I didn't see any oxidation. When I applied the foundation recently my face didn't look cakey at all and with one application, my skin looked flawless. When doing reviews on a foundation I never put on concealer but this particular one really hid away some blemishes I've been having problems with. On a different day I decided to layer up the foundation and found that you have to be really careful if you want to build this up. Your skin will look flawless but with that the saying goes "a little goes a long way".
The next claim Maybelline had was that this foundation was long wearing, up to 24 hours. So of course I had to test its lasting power and let me just tell you all, wow. I've always struggled with foundations because they just don't last on the areas on my face where I need it the most. Like for example, I have a naturally red nose and naturally red cheeks and the rest of face is just a tan yellow. Yes, haha let that sink in. It looks like I've been crying for days and I've been rubbing my cheeks too hard. Okay, wait over exaggeration but once I did get complemented on my cheeks because the person asked what kind of blush I was wearing and I was like girl its natural and she's like wow it looks pretty! Yes thank you but sometimes I'd like an even face. With a lot of foundations at the end of the day, you can see my natural rosy cheeks and red nose. But with this Maybelline product, the wear is absolutely amazing! Now I haven't tested out whether or not the foundation can wear for 24 hours but I can vouch that it still looks great at the end of the day. It did withstand the heat and sweat well throughout the day and I don't see any of my oils throughout the day.
Pros:
- Applies on smoothly and easy to blend
- No oxidization
- Medium to full coverage
- Long wearing
Cons:
- Glass bottle, easy to break
- No pump
- Can get cakey if you put too much on
Overall Thoughts:
I honestly really like this foundation. I would have never picked it up without the recommendation from cutesygirl09. I don't ever recall it being really commercialized but it has been a great find for me. I know I'm going to be really enjoying it over the summer.
Grade:
A+
Price:
$9 - $11
