Review: Revlon Lash Potion by Grow Luscious Mascara

Here is my review for the Revlon Lash Potion by Grow Luscious. I purchased this mascara a little more than a month ago, and I have not had time to test it out until recently. At first, I was going to do a first impressions on it, however, after wearing it out a couple times, I have formed an opinion on the mascara's performance. I have the waterproof version in the color 001 Blackest Black.

First off, I would like to say that I really like the packaging. The gradient of green to blue to purple is eye-catching, from a consumer standpoint. The little bubble/dot design resembles bubble from a witches cauldron, or something like that. I know this doesn't seem important, however from a marketing perspective, they may have designed it this way to imply that it will work like magic.

According to its packaging, this is a volumizing and lengthening mascara. As stated on the back of the package, "The formula with strengthening proteins, amino acids, and essential vitamins, revitalizes lashes. The Illusionist Wand drenches lashes for dramatic volume and combs through lashes for clump-free length." The elaborate language stated on this packaging makes me, the consumer, expect a lot from this product.

Here is a close up of the Illusionist Wand. I do not understand why this has such a complex name, but from a marketing aspect, I assume this is supposed to entice consumers into believing that this wand is more magical than it is. The brush is composed of synthetic fibers and as you can see, the bristles are fairly spread apart, which may aid in separating the lashes. I really liked the brush because I felt that it did live up to the name.

Again, I am truly sorry I do not have pictures of my eyelashes to demonstrate the wear of this mascara, but I can vouch that if you are lucky to have sparse lashes like me, this mascara may just be the one to pick up at your local drugstore. Overall, I really like this mascara--I feel that it lives up to its claim as a volumizing and lengthening mascara. As I mentioned, I do like the brush wand, however, I wish that the bristles were not all one size. It is sometimes difficult to get the inner lashes without getting at least a little bit of product on my eyelid. If you are not a fan of such separated bristles, then you might want to skip out on purchasing this product. Despite this minor downfall, I felt that it held up well in hot weather and it did not smudge at all. Also, I curled my lashes before applying the product, and I only noticed a little bit of falling. By that, I mean that my eyelashes did droop a little, however it was very minor.

Pros:
  • Long, separated bristles great for lengthening
  • Built up a nice volume on my lashes
  • Very long-wearing
  • Does not smudge
Cons:
  • Difficult to apply product to the inner lashes due to the long bristles
Final Thoughts:

I think the Revlon Lash Potion is a great product to pick up if you have sparse, short lashes like I do. It has a nice formulation, and overall I really enjoy using this product. However, this does have a drier formula, so not everyone may like it.

Grade: A

This retails for $4.99 at Target, and $6-8 at drugstores.
