Review: Almay Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm

On the same day that I purchased the new L'oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder foundation I also decided to pick up the Almay Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm. I saw it in the Almay section of the makeup aisle and I contemplated whether or not I should buy it. At first glance I knew I was attracted to the packaging and the colors. So I decided why not give it a go since I had some preconceptions about it from other viewers. My mistake out of all this was that I thought it was a liquid lipstick, not a liquid lipbalm. So, when I went home to try it out I was super disappointed at the pigmentation and then proceeded to thoroughly read its description on the lip product itself. I felt so stupid and wondered where the heck did I hear that this was a liquid lipstick?! With a fresh new mindset, I proceeded on with my review. Here's swatches of the colors that I got.

The two colors that I got were Cantaloupe, a pretty peach color, and Rosy Lipped, a perfect pink nude. Firstly, I think the packaging is amazing. It's small, travel friendly, and fits in the palm of your hand. It has a little bit of weight to it which I like because you know it's sturdy to be careless about with it. I love the Almay scheme color which is mostly gray and the cap is in that color. I don't know why but I associate gray as elegant, modern, and chic. Do you guys think so? I don't know...maybe it's just me but I love it! I love how the tube has the feel of glass (but it's plastic!) and that it is entirely the color of the lipbalm.

Once I opened the lipbalm I found that it had a doe foot applicator which I much prefer when it comes to lip products packaged like this. The scent isn't strong but it does smell like a chemically vanilla with a hint of cupcakes. It smells chemically sweet which a lot of people will not like but that scent does not transfer onto the lips. I like how it applies, smooth. It is a sheer consistency but the color does show and can build up. It won't build up to full pigmented lips but for those girls that like a lipbalm with a tint of color and the look of gloss without the stickiness of a lipgloss, will love this product. It is super moisturizing and that says something because I have dry lips. The only thing is it is not super long lasting. I have to apply after about every hour but to me it's worth it because I'd rather have a  lip product that is moisturizing and easily wears off than a product that is dry but long lasting. The wear is completely expected from a lipbalm and Almay does not claim that it is longwearing.

To see how the lipbalms apply with one coat check out the pictures below:

This lipbalm color is 700 Cantaloupe and is my favorite of the two that I bought. As you can see it does give off a sheer peach color and has the shine of a lipgloss. It is super moisturizing and not sticky at all. I love how easy it was to apply and that I can build it up to a more opaque color.

The second color that I bought is 800 Rosy Lipped. As you can see my natural lip color does peek through with one application but again I can build it up. I like this pink nude color and it is perfect for everyday. It is a simple lipbalm to just throw on in a rush and your lips will still look good.

Pros:
  • Great packaging
  • Comes in 10 different colors (ranges from nudes to brights)
  • Moisturizing
  • Buildable
  • Applies smoothy and evenly
  • Not sticky
  • Doe foot applicator
Cons:
  • Smells chemically sweet
  • Not longwearing

Final Thoughts:

All in all, I love this product! I would definitely go back to the store and buy more of the shades (especially the brighter fuchsia color). It definitely caters to my dry lips which is great and I love how it feels. I hate super sticky lipglosses and I'm glad that in this product, that is not the case. I would definitely recommend this product for anyone who has dry lips and wants to have an everyday type of lipbalm that has a sheer tint of color.

Grade: A+
